UP Cat\u00ada\u00adlyst and Finnish ener\u00adgy com\u00adpa\u00adny Oulun Ener\u00adgia have signed a Let\u00adter of Intent for the util\u00adi\u00adsa\u00adtion of cap\u00adtured CO\u2082 emis\u00adsions from one of Oulun Energia\u2019s facil\u00adi\u00adties in Oulu, Fin\u00adland.<\/strong><br><br>UP Cat\u00ada\u00adlyst pro\u00adduces bat\u00adtery-grade graphite and car\u00adbon nan\u00adotubes from cap\u00adtured CO\u2082 emis\u00adsions using CO\u2082 molten salt elec\u00adtrol\u00ady\u00adsis tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. New facil\u00adi\u00adty, tar\u00adget\u00aded to become oper\u00ada\u00adtional in 2031, would sup\u00adport the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of approx\u00adi\u00admate\u00adly 20,000 tonnes of sus\u00adtain\u00adable bat\u00adtery-grade graphite and car\u00adbon nan\u00adotubes annu\u00adal\u00adly. The project would help strength\u00aden local sup\u00adply chains and reduce Europe\u2019s depen\u00addence on import\u00aded graphite, which is need\u00aded for defence, e\u2011mobility, and the green tran\u00adsi\u00adtion.<br><br>Fin\u00adland has emerged as a strate\u00adgic loca\u00adtion for UP Catalyst\u2019s scale-up due to its strong indus\u00adtri\u00adal base, avail\u00adabil\u00adi\u00adty of com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive clean ener\u00adgy, and grow\u00ading impor\u00adtance with\u00adin the Euro\u00adpean bat\u00adtery val\u00adue chain.<br>\u201cFin\u00adland offers a very strong foun\u00adda\u00adtion for indus\u00adtri\u00adal scale-up, with a reli\u00adable ener\u00adgy grid, com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive clean ener\u00adgy, strong indus\u00adtri\u00adal infra\u00adstruc\u00adture, and clear sup\u00adport for clean tran\u00adsi\u00adtion tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies.
