IFA Expo<\/a> recently took place in Berlin at the beginning of September, and the ICTOulu team at BusinessOulu had the privilege of attending this massive event alongside a group of innovative companies from Oulu: Probot<\/a>, Neurosonic<\/a>, Valfi<\/a>, and Taitonetti<\/a>. This opportunity allowed us to showcase our their assets and innovations on a global stage, thanks to the support of BOIM<\/a>, managed by our colleague, Sanna Savolainen \u2014 a big shoutout to her and the project!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what exactly is IFA?  <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is one of the world\u2019s largest events for innovation and digitalisation, providing a platform primarily for developers focused on consumer solutions to exhibit their products and services. The scale of the event is enormous, featuring around 1,800 exhibitors and attracting more than 200,000 visitors across multiple exhibition halls. IFA has a long-standing history, with the 2024 edition marking its 100th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the event prominently features consumer goods and appliances, smart home technologies, security, health, gaming, and other related sectors, there was much more to discover from a technology perspective. Many brands launched a range of AI-based solutions, showcasing that AI is far more than just a hype. There was also a strong presence of tech developers offering platforms and stacks ready for integration into various use cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our companies fit into both categories: Taitonetti introduced their GreeniX line of refurbished high-end gaming computers, and Neurosonic showcased their innovative mattress series, which also includes a retrofit solution. Meanwhile, Probot demonstrated their robotics expertise, adaptable to multiple use cases, and Valfi, with its sensor and AI-based SaaS technology for user measurement and surveillance in facilities, actively sought system integrators to leverage their offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some key highlights from the event include, first and foremost, the integration of AI into nearly everything. Over the past two years, large language models and other automation capabilities have made significant advances. It is now evident that these foundational technologies are delivering real value and impact to products designed for the mass market. Consumers are being offered more automated solutions and new features enabled by advanced technological competencies and huge datasets, streamlining processes and integrating services and functions related to logistics, home security, smart homes, gaming, and overall digital experiences in our daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major theme was the seamless integration of systems working together. In the area of connectivity, many exhibitors showcased solutions that thrive on collaborative and interconnected standards. In today\u2019s world, where dozens of wireless applications are integrated into our lives, issues can arise, particularly around security. This has created a promising market opportunity for developers to create next-generation network platforms that prioritise protection, flexibility, and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability also played a defining role at the expo. From materials and energy efficiency to meeting and exceeding industry regulations, this topic is becoming a true competitive edge for forward-thinking manufacturers. This focus on sustainable development was clearly visible throughout the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was thrilling to see the enthusiasm among exhibitors and visitors. With AI making rapid advancements and the economy showing signs of recovery, there are significant opportunities for our local technology developers to connect with large manufacturers and integrators. Likewise, our consumer product companies are entering the market at a perfect time. Exciting times are ahead!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
