Chempolis is a technology leader specializing in 3G biorefining technologies. Established in 1995, the company provides profitable, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for a multitude of industries. Chempolis' formico®-technologies enable the production of high-quality products, such as bioethanol, biochemicals and sulfur-free lignin, sustainably out of non-wood and non-food lignocellulosic feedstocks. The process utilizes an extensive range of lignocellulosic biomasses in a flexible manner, with high material efficiency. Chempolis' dedication to create clean and efficient solutions has resulted in more than 100 granted patents.

Chempolis' headquarters are located in Oulu, where they operate a state-of-the-art biorefinery. This pilot plant serves as the main hub of innovation, where full-scale testing and industrial scale-up services are also offered for clients and partners. Chempolis operates globally with a presence in India through its subsidiary, Chempolis India Private Limited.

Chempolis' services entail biorefinery project development, technology licensing, project and application development and piloting. The formico®-technologies Chempolis offers are self-sufficient in terms of energy, and produce no harmful effluents, CO2 or sulphuric emissions. Chempolis' expertise also covers product and business development.

In addition, Chempolis' OPEN concept offers expert services in the field of scale-up activities for sustainable businesses. The services are available for companies of all sizes, who are looking to scale up their innovative ideas into commercial success stories and change their industries with revolutionary practices. The experimental work entails services from laboratory level all the way to piloting and pre-commercial scale phases. By bringing together companies and stakeholders from various areas, Chempolis strives to create a network and business ecosystem, where collaboration is built on commonly shared interests or commonly shared services between the parties.

Today, Chempolis has large-scale projects in India with Assam Bio Ethanol Private Limited as well as in Finland with NordFuel Oy. The joint venture of Assam Bio Ethanol Pvt Ltd will be the first biorefinery in the world producing cellulosic ethanol and bio-based chemicals from bamboo. Additionally, in March 2024 NordFuel selected Chempolis as the technology provider for their Haapavesi bioproduct factory, and the collaboration towards commercialization continues.
