The Greening of the Maritime Industry Creates Growth

The long-term development and sales efforts of Randax Oy, a manufacturer of large permanent magnet motors, has paid off. The company has embarked on a strong growth trajectory, particularly due to the electrification of the maritime industry. The greening of the sector and the shift towards low-emission solutions have increased the demand for Randax’s energy-efficient motors.

The number of Randax’s customers has multiplied in recent years, and the company’s motors have been delivered to countries such as Norway, the Netherlands, and China. One of the most significant reference customers is the Norwegian HPS (Haf Power Solutions), which utilizes Randax’s motors in its electric propulsion systems. The collaboration with HPS is a proof to the competitiveness and reliability of Randax’s technology in demanding marine conditions.

The company’s order book is currently very strong and covers the next two years. According to Sales & Engineering Manager Kimmo Huurinainen, the growth is driven not only by technological leadership but also by the ability to respond quickly and flexibly to the individual needs of customers. “The greening of the maritime industry is no longer the future, but the present. We are proud to be part of building a cleaner and more sustainable future for maritime transport,” says Huurinainen.

Randax participated in the joint stand organized by BusinessOulu at the leading Nordic maritime industry fair, Nor-shipping 2.–6.6.2025 in Oslo. Also present were Oulu-based companies Sähkö-Rantek Oy, Sah-Ko Oy, and Seaker Oy.

Sähkö-Rantek Oy

Sähkö-Rantek is a manufacturer of electrical industry equipment, offering custom-made motor components such as wound and machined parts and assemblies. The company’s expertise supports the electrification of the maritime industry, particularly in motor technology and equipment assemblies.

Sah-Ko Oy

Sah-Ko is a versatile industrial service provider, manufacturing machined and welded parts, steel structures, industrial piping, and tanks. The company also offers installation, repair, and maintenance services. In the maritime industry, Sah-Ko specializes in the repair of steel structures in ports and ships. The company also manufactures custom-made heat exchanger CIP (Clean-In-Place) washers under its Hexxaclean brand.

Seaker Oy

Seaker Oy develops digital solutions for maritime needs. The company’s products include the ATLAS system, which enables real-time data collection and transfer from ships to shore. Seaker’s technology supports the energy efficiency of vessels and compliance with environmental requirements, which is crucial for the greening of the maritime industry.

The Business Opportunities for International Market project (BOIM) is an EU-supported internationalization project for SMEs. The goal of the BOIM project is to find new international business opportunities for SMEs in the region and to help companies find new international networks and increase export trade and jobs in the region. The project is implemented by BusinessOulu as part of internationalization and export services. The financier of the project is the Federation of Pohjois-Pohjanmaan liitto, which finances the project as part of the Renewing and Competent Finland 2021–2027, the EU’s regional and structural policy program, from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
