Inside Visidon: Skills Matter – Backgrounds Don’t

Founded as a spin off from the University of Oulu, Visidon has grown into an international company developing advanced image and video enhancement algorithms for devices from mobile phones to drones.

Colleagues describe Visidon as friendly, open, and supportive – a workplace where everyone can ask, learn, and collaborate regardless of background or role. Finnish work–life balance is also central to their culture. Visidon was recognized as Oulu’s Most International Employer of 2025.

“Whenever I finish my work during the day, I just close my email, my chats and focus on my personal life,” says Mohammad Tavakolian, Senior Machine Learning Engineer.

How to balance social and work life at Radisson Blu Hotel?

I don’t specifically recruit people from different backgrounds. I recruit people mostly with their service mind and attitude”, says General Manager Tarja Karvola from Radisson Blu.

At Radisson Blu Hotel Oulu, they are proud to be part of an international hotel chain with over 20 nationalities represented in their team. Their diverse workforce allows them to experience and appreciate different cultures, making their workplace feel like home. One member of the multicultural team is Kenneth, who works as a chef:

“You have all different ethnicities here, so as soon as you come in, you are pretty much family right away.”

“TImegate’s CEO picked me up for the stations and showed around”

“Having international talents in our team is crucial for our business”, thinks Chief Financial Officer Maria Luukkainen from Timegate Instruments. ’

Timegate is a global deep tech company, providing real-time process monitoring solutions for bioprocessing industries. One member of the multicultural team is Vineeth, who works as a Senior R&D Engineer and Project Manager.

The benefits of the international workplace are mutual. It is an advantage to the company to have English as a primary language, but the international talents also broaden the perspectives of the team. For Vineeth the Finnish worklife appears to have low hierarchy, which supports fluency in working processes.
