March Board Games & Networking Night

March Board Games & Networking Night

International House Oulu is back with the popular Board Games & Networking event this March. If you want to meet new people while playing your favorite board games, this event is just for you.

This Month’s Highlight: Startup Refugees

At the beginning of the event, Startup Refugees is bringing three interactive activities aiming to raise awareness about the experiences of international people, promote anti-racism, support job seekers, and strengthen community connections.

  1. “Privileged Job Seeker” Game
Startup Refugees has designed an interactive board game where players navigate the recruitment process while facing different advantages and disadvantages based on factors such as ethnicity, language skills, and education level.
Why does this matter? The game raises awareness about systemic barriers in employment and sparks important conversations about how privilege and discrimination shape career opportunities.
  2. Post-it Notes: Share Your Thoughts on Antiracism
A community message board dedicated to antiracism will be created during the event. Everyone is invited to write a personal experience, reflection, quote, or poem related to racism, discrimination, or inclusion, in English or in their mother tongue
These notes will later be transformed into a collective artwork to be exhibited, because every voice matters in the fight against racism
Why does this matter? Antiracism begins with listening. By sharing lived experiences and reflections, we create space for dialogue, empathy, and collective responsibility. Small voices together form a powerful message: change starts within the community.
  3. “Navigating Finland”: Working Life & Culture Quiz
An interactive quiz exploring working life, residence permits, benefits, and integration in Finland. Participants will engage not only with regulations and rights, but also with the structural frameworks that shape who feels secure, and who must constantly adapt.
International participants can learn something new about Finnish working life or take pride in their existing knowledge, while Finnish participants are invited to see the system through the eyes of immigrants. And yes, there will be some humor too.
Why does this matter? Because understanding the system is not the same as experiencing it. Awareness is the first step toward equity.
