This second story is an attempt to collect the main general themes in embedded systems’ world we noticed during our stay in Nurnberg. Let’s take a closer look.  

The Embedded World summit in 2023 showcased the latest technological challenges that shape the design concepts of complex embedded systems. From sensors to the cloud, hardware to software to tools, smart, intelligent, efficient, safe, reliable, and interoperable systems are needed. The industry is clearly responding to these challenges with adaptive, autonomous, and intelligent systems that can safely and reliably carry out critical tasks. 

One of the key concerns when it comes to embedded systems is their responsibility. Embedded systems are increasingly being used in function-critical applications such as medical technology, mobility, and industrial automation. As a result, many questions arise that must be answered, ranging from responsibility by design to formal verification methods and ethical issues. There was lots of talks on this theme also from the business case perspectives. Moreover, embedded systems play a central role in many efficient and sustainable applications. Therefore, they must be sustainable over their entire life cycle, from design and manufacturing to operation and updateability, refurbishment, decommissioning, and disposal. 

The Embedded World 2023 focused on a variety of specialty areas, including embedded vision, safety and security, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, intellectual property (IP), and integrated circuit (IC) design, and embedded intelligence. These specialty areas reflect the current megatrends in the industry and will provide attendees with an in-depth look at the latest developments in these areas. We are also very willing to share more insights on these themes with anyone interested. 

Embedded vision is becoming increasingly important as the demand for real-time analysis of image and video data grows. Safety and security are critical concerns for embedded systems that are used in function-critical applications, and the industry is constantly developing new methods to ensure that these systems are safe and secure. M2M communication is essential for connected devices and systems, while IP and IC design are critical components in the development of embedded systems. Finally, embedded intelligence is key to developing adaptive, autonomous, and intelligent systems that can safely and reliably carry out critical tasks
