Oulu Airport is the province’s gateway to the world – the easiest and most convenient way to fly on holiday is to depart directly from this regional airport.
The aim is to keep Oulu an attractive destination for airlines also in the future. To make active use of existing air connections, it is important to promote them in Oulu and the surrounding area. Diverse air connections are vital for growth, businesses and tourism in the whole of North Ostrobothnia.
The “Globetrotting from Oulu” campaign is made possible by the North Ostrobothnia Air Transport Development Programme, funded by the City of Oulu, Hailuoto, Ii, Kalajoki, Kempele, Kuusamo, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Pudasjärvi, Taivalkoski, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi, and Vaala. The aim of the programme is to boost air traffic activity in the region and increase the appeal of North Ostrobothnia. This means attracting new international air connections to Oulu Airport and strengthening the capacity of the Oulu–Helsinki route.
The campaign provides a comprehensive, unbiased presentation of options to travel from Oulu by air. It highlights all the airlines operating from Oulu and the holiday destinations offered by tour operators.
But air travel is not the only mode of travel under development: active work is being done in the region also to strengthen rail transport. For example, the station area in Oulu is about to undergo a significant reform, and international train connections to Sweden and a double track to the south are being promoted. Both modes of transport are important for the region.
