Hous­ing Fair in Oulu 2025

Oulu dares – after all, courage is one of the city’s val­ues. Oulu host­ed the Hous­ing Fair dur­ing the amaz­ing event sum­mer of 2025, coin­cid­ing with the Kuninku­us­rav­it trot­ting race also orga­nized in Oulu. The Hous­ing Fair was built on sched­ule at Har­taanselän­ran­ta, just a kilo­me­ter away from the stun­ning beach­es of Nal­likari. The area fea­tures mod­ern, com­mu­ni­ty-ori­ent­ed vil­lage-style hous­ing that respects his­to­ry and offers oppor­tu­ni­ties for dif­fer­ent life stages and styles.

Mod­ern hous­ing inspired by his­to­ry

At the Hous­ing Fair show­cased the lat­est trends in small house liv­ing and con­struc­tion in gen­er­al. The fair area fea­tures var­i­ous types of homes for new res­i­dents, from styl­ish small hous­es to trendy town­hous­es and mini detached hous­es. The high­light of the area is a func­tion­al water­front boule­vard with com­mu­nal spaces, boat docks, and offers even small-scale float­ing con­struc­tion. A unique pedes­tri­an bridge called Har­taan­sil­ta, is the land­mark of the area.

The Oulu­jo­ki Riv­er Delta, Har­taanselän­ran­ta, and espe­cial­ly Hietasaari are known for their 19th-cen­tu­ry vil­las. Now, the area’s fas­ci­nat­ing his­to­ry will be com­ple­ment­ed by fresh, mod­ern inter­pre­ta­tions of a new vil­la-like lifestyle, expressed through charm­ing wood­en archi­tec­ture, shel­tered court­yards, and a pleas­ant atmos­phere cre­at­ed by abun­dant veg­e­ta­tion. The result is stun­ning!

Respect­ing and enjoy­ing nature

The urban envi­ron­ment of Har­taanselän­ran­ta is being devel­oped with eco-friend­ly solu­tions, pro­mot­ing sus­tain­able mobil­i­ty and car-free liv­ing. The homes are mod­ern but still in har­mo­ny with nature. As much forest­ed area and impor­tant bird habi­tats along the shore­line have been pre­served as pos­si­ble, and the area’s mead­ows and flower fields have also been con­sid­ered.

The devel­op­ment of the Har­taanselän­ran­ta area did­n’t end in the sum­mer of 2025; the devel­op­ment and con­struc­tion work still con­tin­ues after the Hous­ing Fair, at least until 2030.
