The ongo­ing imple­men­ta­tion of the Marjaniemi town plan opens new year-round oppor­tu­ni­ties to tourism, recre­ation and leisure ser­vices as well as mari­na devel­op­ment.

A fixed road con­nec­tion to Hailu­o­to is cur­rent­ly under con­struc­tion between Riu­tunkari in Oulu and Huikku in Hailu­o­to. The fixed con­nec­tion (8.4 km) con­sists of a cause­way sec­tion and the long Huikku and Riut­tu bridges. The con­nec­tion improves the nation­al and region­al acces­si­bil­i­ty of Hailu­o­to and sup­ports local econ­o­my. The con­nec­tion expands the trav­el-to-work area.

Marjaniemi is full of attrac­tion and oppor­tu­ni­ties

Marjaniemi has been an impor­tant port and fish­ing area for cen­turies and is still an essen­tial fish­ing port in the Both­n­ian Bay.

The new zon­ing plan of Marjaniemi accom­mo­dates con­struc­tion for tourism and leisure pur­pos­es. The new plan allows almost 5,000 m² addi­tion­al con­struc­tion for hol­i­day homes, a hotel, panoram­ic cot­tages and surf huts.

Hailu­o­to offers unique experiences round the year

The attrac­tive tra­di­tion­al island charms with its beau­ty and nation­al land­scape. Hailu­o­to offers also var­i­ous activ­i­ties from nature hik­ing to minigolf, fris­bee golf and ath­let­ics.

In win­ter, Hailu­o­to offers diverse out­door and recre­ation activ­i­ties in fab­u­lous scener­ies and renewed hik­ing trails. As the evening gets dark, it’s nice to relax in a cosy accom­mo­da­tion and sam­ple local del­i­ca­cies. In sum­mer­time, the cul­tur­al life of the island is in full bloom and offers events for all tastes. The sports park in Keskikylä com­ple­ments the recre­ation­al facil­i­ties in the area and offers activ­i­ties for all ages. Spring and autumn are the best times for bird watch­ers and nature lovers.
