”Now is the time to bring Rotu­aari to life!” A brand new fes­ti­val in the cen­ter of Oulu on 15–16 July

This sum­mer, the free Africans Cul­tur­al Fes­ti­val will be held in Oulu for the first time, serv­ing African tastes, music and col­ors.

Dur­ing the week­end fes­ti­val, Africans and oth­er nation­al­i­ties liv­ing in Oulu will present their cul­tures.

The event will take place on Sat­ur­day and Sun­day 15–16 July at Rotu­aari in the cen­ter of Oulu. The theme is “The diverse col­ors of Africa”.

– Now is the time to bring Oulu and Rotu­aari to life. This is one of the most impor­tant events for Africans liv­ing in the Oulu region and it also sup­ports the city’s diver­si­ty agen­da, says Ojuo­lape Akin­wun­mi, founder and CEO of Africans in Oulu.

– Oulu will be the Euro­pean cap­i­tal of cul­ture in 2026. The event already shows that diverse cul­ture is accept­ed and pro­mot­ed in Oulu.

The fam­i­ly event is open to every­one and free of charge.

There will be more than 20 arts & crafts activ­i­ties, food ven­dors, enter­tain­ing music, and dance per­for­mances.

On Sat­ur­day evening, Rotu­aari will also host a fash­ion show show­cas­ing African styles.

The two-day fes­ti­val will con­clude on Sun­day with a con­cert by the ener­getic band Cal­abase.

Tänä kesänä Oulus­sa jär­jestetään ensim­mäistä ker­taa ilmaistapah­tu­ma Africans in Oulu Cul­tur­al Fes­ti­val, joka tar­joilee afrikkalaisia maku­ja, ääniä ja väre­jä.

Fes­ti­vaalivi­ikon­lop­un aikana Oulus­sa asu­vat afrikkalaiset ja muut kansal­lisu­udet esit­televät kult­tuuri­aan.
Tapah­tu­ma jär­jestetään lauan­taina ja sun­nun­taina 15.–16. heinäku­u­ta käve­lykatu Rotu­aar­il­la, Oulun keskus­tas­sa. Sen tee­m­ana on ”Afrikan mon­imuo­toiset värit”.

– Nyt on aika herät­tää Oulu ja Rotu­aari eloon. Tämä on yksi tärkeim­mistä tapah­tu­mista Oulun seudul­la asuville afrikkalaisille ja se tukee myös kaupun­gin mon­imuo­toisu­u­den agen­daa, sanoo Africans in Oulu ‑yhteisön perus­ta­ja ja toim­i­tusjo­hta­ja Ojuo­lape Akin­wun­mi.

– Oulu on Euroopan kult­tuuripääkaupun­ki vuon­na 2026. Tapah­tu­mamme osoit­taa jo nyt, että Oulus­sa hyväksytään ja edis­tetään mon­imuo­toista kult­tuuria.

Koko per­heen tapah­tu­ma on kaikille avoin ja ilmainen.

Alueel­la on yli 20 käsi­työ- ja ruokamyyjää sekä viihdyt­täviä musi­ik­ki- ja tanssiesi­tyk­siä. Lauan­tai-iltana Rotu­aar­il­la nähdään myös afrikkalaisia tyyle­jä esit­televä muot­inäytös.

Kak­sipäiväi­nen fes­ti­vaali huipen­tuu sun­nun­taina ener­gisen Cal­abase-yhty­een keikkaan.
