”You must come to Oulu with an open mind and a big smile”

Junnaid Iqbal works as a System Simulation Engineer at Nokia. He has been in Oulu nearly two and a half years.

Who

My name is Junnaid Iqbal. I am 27 years old and I come from Pakistan.

Where

I work as a System Simulation Engineer in Nokia for the development and deployment of the 5G network.

Why

I have been in Oulu nearly two and a half years now. I came directly from Pakistan in 2018 to study for a Masters in Wireless Communication Engineering at the University of Oulu. Along with the studies, I worked as a Research Assistant on the university’s 6G pioneer flagship program.

I always dreamt about studying in higher-level education abroad. Therefore, research in the field of wireless networks and the 6G opportunities provided by the university helped me to choose Oulu.

What

‘Opportunities for all’. As an international person, that’s the way I would describe the Finnish society’s belief.  The standard of living in Oulu is high.

The city of Oulu is well organized and there is not much traffic, unlike in my home country.

Although people are quite shy, if you ask them to help, they are more than happy to help you. You must come here with an open mind and a big smile.

On a personal level, everyone has here enough time for rest and healing both the body and the mind.

In my spare time, I enjoy doing exercises in the gym and playing sports, for example cricket, badminton and volleyball.

I especially love the beaches here, and Nallikari is one of my favorite places in Oulu. I like to go to the sauna too.

How

There are many opportunities for ICT personnel in Oulu, so I would like to encourage people to consider Oulu as their next hometown.

LinkedIn is the first stop to get all the information about current openings. Therefore, it is better to gather all the relevant details from LinkedIn and apply through the job portal of the organization.

When you are applying for work, Finnish companies appreciate relevant experience, a skill set and education,. There are lots of opportunities to grow and develop your skill sets professionally.
